Fringe over - was fun & a challenge & a pain in the arse... all at the same time! Highlights include:- Hangin with amanda palmer - cool lady being head-hunted by voodoo vaudeville to be their on-tour stage manager!!! (these are 3 smokin hot betty-pageesque girls, 1 norman lovvett style compere, 1 giant rabbit(?) & 1 baby warhol(!) based in brighton - can you say "yes please"?) Mark & Svetlana - 1 half of the beloved "freaks in the box" & his lovely lady wife - spitting banana into each other's mouth's from across the stage, kissing banana into audience members mouth's - generally being sick & hilarious! xxx The bongo club - in particular sam the sound sound man, ally manager & pete doorman - the unholy triumvirate without which my job would have been much more difficult, if not impossible. The vaudeville crew - Thanks go to Mazz, Anneke & Feimatta for keeping (in)sane enough to do their jobs & remain nice people - they'll probably never actually read this, but i had to write it down. The other 2 (AHEM)team-members don't deserve a mention here, nor anywhere else really. Lily Dumont - unfortunatly no new acts!!! must try harder! not her fault & besides, more than made up for it by being wonderfully silly & great down-to-earth company amidst all that crazyness - lotsa luv my feline friend! Phylis - you knew what you were doing & i love & hate you for it... that's all i can think of for now, will probably come back & add more when/if i remember. | | Thursday, August 16th, 2007 | | 3:52 pm |
maybee this is only funny to me...?

The star Hoa Tinh in harmonic aspect will give you the desire to control everything and inspire you a great need of stability. However, it's not by confining yourself in a stilted attitude - which might perhaps have proved useful in the past but which is no longer appropriate by now - that you can solve your problems. I'm hoooooome! Went out to the hebridean celtic festival up in lewis with the 'pooks last week, only days after the kirkaldy hot air balloon show (which was fantastic btw!)3 days travel through the highlands & islands (2 ferrys!), 5 days of workshops, walkabout, streetshows & caberet style shows. We, of course, were fantastic. Tea (Steve) & Crumpet (Me) did two shows in one friday, the second of which was as the hosts of the caberet in the festival grounds, which we had eating out of our palms - very pleased with what could happen with those two... It should go without saying that it was bloody hard work & that i am now one jacked-up kitty. My knots have knots on them. Ow. We got to see allsorts of cool shit - we saw a golden eagle. A wild one. 4/500 metres from our fairy-glen campsite. we woke up, walked over to the van & found groups of old folks with telescopes on tripods watching the damn thing! Tried some luverly single malts, maybe too many ;-P We had a lot of fun. anyway, i'm off to bed. | | Sunday, June 11th, 2006 | | 12:10 am |

it's bin a while.. ...a good long while, eh? Things are fairly fuckin crazy at the moment, for 2 main reasons:- Beltane - as all edinburgh mates know beltane eats your soul. It WILL consume every last bit of time, energy, money & sanity you possess. This year I'm a Red Man. This means for the last 3 months i have been training (along with 30 or so others) very hard to form large human pyramids whilst naked & painted red in front of thousands of people on top of a hill in Edinburgh. For free. On sunday. So i'm fit & i've made lots of new friends... This is us last week at our tech run-thru http://www.redmansimon.com/beltane06runthrough.htmThis has put quite a strain on my resources, as you can imagine, but i've managed not to lose my job, flat, girlfriend, sanity or personal freedom yet. YET. Employment - havn't really got a steady job, just gigs every now and again, things aree picking up again now summer's nearly here. I'm on the TePooka fire team for 2 festivals already which i'm very much looking forward to. Then there's a hot air balloon event locally that we've been aproached to put on a fire show at in a couple of months. I'm also pursuing a self-employment option through a very helpfull start-up company called dhp who seem determined to shove a free grand my way, & far be it from me to stop them! luckily they're willing to wait till after beltane to get any sense out of me, i'm not making any decisions right now, that would be silly. I got the most unexpected phonecall today. I was out in the garden with the Reds making a sedan chair for Blue, who unfortunatley broke her foot jumping off a pyramid, when my phone goes. Turns out to be my Aunty Anne who i havn't seen or spoken to for about ten years (like most of my family) Instant alarms!!! Who Died? Thankfully no-one, it's my grandma's 80th birthday next friday & there's a party in richmond, North Yorkshire. All the family's gonna be there, can i come? wow. Wierd thing is, i've been thinking quite a lot recently about how good it would be to see my rather estranged family again & now i have the chance, there's not going to be a better opportunity to do this, so i'm gonna do it. It's gonna be really fucking wierd tho, eh? I did have to ask, did my gran want me there? The last time i saw here we wern't very pleased to see each other & i wasn't sure after 10 years that what had changed, but Aunty Anne assured me that to avoid drama that Grandma should draw up a list of who she wanted to come & i was on the list. Still doesn't mean that things will go well when i get there, but at least i'm welcome in principle. Unless there's been a misunderstanding or a sudden attack of senility & when i get there it's all "why is HE here!?!?!?!?" That would be awful. Anyway, that's about all for now, sorry for the lengthly delay between updates, but please know, all of you, i do think about you all at various moments & miss you, love to you all. | | Friday, April 7th, 2006 | | 10:14 am |
It's my 28th birthday today... You wanna know how i started it off? Heh. Visiting the fucking dole... oh well. Time to skin up, i think | | Monday, January 16th, 2006 | | 5:12 am |

err, um, yeah... So, last night i was a giant wolf again! YAY! This time it was for a celtic connections concert in Glasgow. I got a call a couple of days ago, asking if i could come provide some lupine shennanigens whilst the drummers drummed & the pipers piped, so of course i said yes, got my shit together & joined a couple of my wild hunt crew to form a pack that terrorised, entertained & otherwise enthralled the audience by roaming the venue doing crazy wolf antics such as:- Cocking my leg up pillars, equipment & on one particularly memorable occaision, a large bald man! Sniffing other people's bums Dry humping some poor woman aginst a pillar (husband thought it was funny, she didn't) Drinking people's offerred drink & pretending to be a drunken hound Making girls run/hide/scream hehhehheh Getting scratched in that place that gets your back leg going... Asking the bar for a bowl of water (honest, i'm a guide dog, it's ok) Apparently the bar manager put out an all-points call over the radio "There's a wolf in my bar, is it part of the act?" Like what else would it be?!?!?!?!?!? Dancing with andy & him limboing under my legs! Playing with a very lively girl until she got a little too boisterous running between my legs & having to cling to a pillar for dear life! Avoiding those strange folk who take advantage of the fact that you can't stop them from having a good old grope as you go past... Ahhh, i could go on, but you get the idea. Post gig it was off to Andy's place for the usual refreshments which had me staggering home around 5/6ish, i'm not sure... I had fun = understatement. There's more going on, but i'm not going into it right now, suffice to say, it's all good. Hope everyone had a very merry xmas & a happy new year... | | Friday, December 23rd, 2005 | | 1:34 am |

playing catch-up
ok, so, last time i posted, i had just come back from Hull & the show/dentist/insanity that acompanied it. That was bonfire night, so i must have updated around this time last month. Well, a lot's happened since then, think it'll be easiest for me to work backwards from now, filling in the gaps as i go. So, i moved house yesterday, i am now the other side of town completely (south of the city centre) in Bruntsfield (student/bohemian area- much more me!) The room's tiny, but it's only £150 p/month & makes up for the lack of bedroom space by having a living room big enough to practice in - it has gymnastic mats on the floor! Also has communal broadband access computer (hence update) so i can watch web-based poi/rope-dart/juggling vids whilst practising!!! heh, luv it. Goz helped me move, got it all done in one trip with a lot of squeezing in of stuff, i had to follow on bike cos there was literally no more room. In return i have to teach her chi-gung/kung-fu. Ok then! Hopefully this will lead me to practise more regularly myself (i can feel a new year's resolution coming on...) Before the move was Fort William. We (TePOOKa) were booked to be part of the xmas celebrations in the town centre (2 lots of walkabout & 1 fire show) For the walkabout on the first night, me & lucy were a lord & lady (her on stilts) & i had to keep on whipping my long velvet lords jacket orf & do fire & shout about the show the following night. I don't think the good people of Fort William really understood the whole concept of street entertainers & we had a fairly mixed reception. The second night I was a sad (& soggy) clown, hung around with lucy again (safety in numbers) & had a good laff apart from a few idiot kids being, well, idiots. So with 3 hours between the end of the walkabout & the start of the show, which hadn't been fully set up yet, things were a little rushed getting ready. My main role in the show was to have a sword-fight with Toph (who'e incredibly lovely) using giant flaming swords which self-ignite using pyrotechnics!!! The fight went reeeeallly well & ben, i think, woud have been proud of us (he'd had to drop out cos he'd been put on jury servise - boooo) Following that was the choreographed finale piece that i'd rehearsed a grand total of, ooh, about 3 hrs, so i wasn't as pleased with how well that went. The whole thing was a bit shambolic, really, but i really valued the chance to see how the pooks work together & get a better idea of how i work with them, which was good. Also got the chance to explore a bit of the countryside around the town IE The Castle!!! which we got to rehearse in & i climbed & frollicked around - it's fucking cool, i'd have loved it as a kid. The week before that was working & rehearsing for the show as well as doing a gig over in Bonnyrig, another small town with an unappreciative audience! I'm being harsh here, it's not their fault if they're not used to street entertainers & the majority at ;east cracked a smile, but some of them, i swear, just didn't understand that we'd been hired to come & do what we were doing & were looking at us like we were nuisences or were gonna steal their children or something! Also, what is it about circus performers that make kids of all ages want to semi-seriously attack us with various weaponry? & who's bright idea was it to hand out toy daggers & swords fuckin wholesale to these violent little monstrosities? I'm going on a bit i know, but i did have fun, especially the finale fire show, i managed to well impress the McClowns (the people who'e hired me - twas a non pook gig) with my poi & rope dart - i was happy with that & hopefully they'll hire me again in the future, ya never know... Hmm, before that Tryste came over to stay, which was good for the first few days & not-so-good thereafter, will know for next time to have alternate venue cos i really hate having awkwardness when there should be good times. (if you're reading this, get in touch!)It was really good to catch up & hear about all the exciting things she's been up to, as well as hugs & fond memories, as well as, *DROOL*, Lasagne... Before that it was mainly working & trying to keep in reasonable shape both mentally & physically which in the sub-zero temperatures (i kid you not!) is fairly full-on. So there you have it, my life up to date... ...apart from all the things i forgot. | | Monday, December 5th, 2005 | | 1:20 am |
Discworld: Which Ankh-Morpork City Watch Character are YOU? brought to you by QuizillaNow i've got your attention, here's something i got tagged with earlier... Tagged! Ground Rules: The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "5 weird habits/facts of yourself" and people who get tagged need to write an entry about their 5 weird habits as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next people to be tagged and list their names. 1 - I read on the loo. For ages. Long after the defacatory act has finished. Sometimes my legs go numb. If i don't have a book, i'll play "Alien Scum" on my phone. 2 - I can't help but check the "see all results" option for memes, or check multiple options in those old steve jackson & ian livingston "fighting fantasy" books, to the point where i'll run out of fingers keeping the places on seperate pages open. (sometimes on the loo) 3 - I scoop out my earwax with my little finger & offer it to my cat who goes crazy for the stuff, chewing my finger to get the last bits out from under my fingernail. (cat owners - try it for yourself, you will be amazed! & slightly disgusted, in a hilarious way - they make the best faces!) 4 - Just like bloodclottedbod, i too have a pre-show ritual. I *have* to go to the loo & sit there for at least 5mins, even if i don't actually need to pass anything. It's the one time when i won't read or play on my phone. I just sit there, zen-like. 5 - I avoid as much as possible walking on anything that looks like it would be big enough for me to fall in. So those telephone access panels in the pavements? If there's a "3", i'll detour around. I think it's a residual survival instinct from my caveman days, cos i'm not the only one who does it, Dave Taylor once told me a ryhme that explains it all - 3's bad luck, 2's good luck & 1's a good fuck. There you have it. Bonzai300 Sylphgirl Tryste Freemore Mcp CONSIDER YOURSELVES TAGGED!!! Oh, & anyone else who fancies it... ;-) | | Friday, December 2nd, 2005 | | 11:37 am |
fer fook's sake maaaaan...
Random & avoidable? Belly dancer using fire without a permit in public in america Godamn html!!! Can't get it to work so just go to www.newhampshire.com/articles/showularti cle.cfm?id=63448 (Edit) or click on... Link Text Guess I'm just lucky to have done the majority of unlawfull fire stuff in Hull, where no-one, especially coppers, gives a flying fuck!!! Could happen to any one of us (well any of us who are not properly licensed anyway!) just bad luck i reckon, but i get the feeling that the fucker that dobbed her into the cops was just one of those fuckers who wanders straight into/through the area of poi, you know the ones, the ones who are really surprised by traffic when they step out into a road, like what are all these cars doing here where i'm walking? I mean, you're walking through town one night & you see a load of fire whirling about, you'd keep a safe distance away, wouldn't you? I mean, it's on fire, fer fook's sake!!! Either that or even worse, the fucker saw this girl putting on a show & people enjoying it & thought to themselves, "well, fun is fun, but i'm not sure it's all that safe... hmm, maybe if i ring the police & say that she nearly hit me with some fire, they'll put a stop to it? Now i don't know the specifics, maybe she was putting the public at risk, but don't buskers just get moved on? Not arrested!!! I mean, is there any need? Fuck it, spleen vented, rant over until i hear more about it, or until i just feel like bringing it up again... | | Saturday, November 12th, 2005 | | 3:56 am |
Ok, so sunday was pretty much a non-starter, having not had very much sleep & being in considerable pain after aggrevating my Bloody Socket, i popped some of Will's heavy-duty morphine-based medical-grade painkillers & snoozed till i woke up in pain, took another & went back to the sofa... Only to wake up an hour after the bus had left - sheeeet. Not so good. So i had to borrow some cash & skip out on the next train to leeds to catch the overnight bus to edinburgh. Nicky was going to come thru & pick me up, but her car broke down, boo. Anyway, was good to see Jez & Nicky & their ubercute kittens! *AWWWWW* I then got on the bus to manchester to catch yet another bus to edinburgh. Unfortunately the bus was completely full (the woman on the national express phone had said not to worry, there'll be a seat. yeah, cheers luv) So i'm stuck in manchester at 2 in the morning. Fuck. So i make a couple of calls (one to guy, one to adam - the only 2 people i know in manc!) A couple of mins later adam rings back, says it's cool to stay at his & he'll come meet me YAY! & as i'm passing guy's house, on the way to adam's, guy rings & i nip quickly in out of the rain & ring adam back to tell him it's ok, don't go out in the rain, i'm sorted. But adam's already out in the rain - bad alex... He was lovely about it - he's ace! So 9am i'm on the bus to edinburgh & get in just in time to go to work for 7hrs - damn. Finish work, go to bed, get up in time to go back to work again - will this never end?!?!?!?! So thursday i didn't do much else but eat, sleep & call people about gigs & projects & let people know i got home ok. Friday was more productive with a visit to TePOOKa - where i now have 2 confirmed gigs & several upcoming projects that could lead to further work!!! Then we went to phylis's leaving do, lots of hugs, she's off to Oz & won't be back till next year - she will be missed! Then after that i went to Sunbird & Birgit's birthday(ish) party & had fun playing a variation of murder in the dark & getting bollixed! Today I go to pk with meg, cos the glasgow herald wants to take some photo's then it's off to paint TePOOKa... I'm tired already just thinking about it! That's all for now. |
